Bare Minerals is one of those brands that I’ve heard loads about but never been brave enough to try.
I had it in my head that it was only powder foundation and as I never really used to use powders I just kind of dismissed it. I was recently in the market for a new foundation and after seeing a colleague’s lovely complexion thanks to Bare Minerals I decided to give it a whirl.
The girl on the counter was lovely and really helpful – she practically gave me a makeover which I loved. She recommended the Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream and gave me a sample to take away.
While I didn’t buy the foundation there and then as I like to go home and try them myself, I did pick up a few on the spot goodies.
The first is the primer. I’d been without a primer for a while and liked this when the girl used it on me. It has a nice tint to it and the fact that it comes with an SPF is a massive bonus as most foundations I use tend not to have SPF in. The liquid texture to this feels lovely on the skin and one pump is a perfect amount for full face coverage. This doesn’t feel like it’s clogging my pores, like other primers have done in the past.
I also picked up one of the Christmas gift sets.
As someone who hadn’t used this brand before I thought it would be a great intro into it. It had the Mineral Veil which the lady again has used on me and I loved, a mascara which I wanted to try as I needed a new go-to mascara and lots of minis perfect for travel.
These were the items I was less bothered about in the pack. I had a lovely surprise when I tried these though – the colour is perfect and it applies beautifully! This is now my day time lipstick and I’ve even been using the lip gloss – despite not normally being a gloss person as the size means it’s perfect to put in an evening purse. The lipstick isn’t exactly long lasting which isn’t a problem for me, but if it is for you then this may not be the product for you.
On to the eye products and I was looking forward to trying the mascara. The effect on my lashes was lovely – long and separated. The only area this fell down was the end of the day and the massive panda eyes I had. Sadly as much as I loved the effect I couldn’t have such smudging so I won’t be repurchasing. The eyeshadow is a lovely shimmery gold that isn’t too dramatic and applies really nicely. I’m not normally a fan of loose powder eyeshadows but I really liked this.
I haven’t tried the Prime Time as it’s purely for travel. I checked the colour on the blush and also put that away for travel. The Mineral Veil I got right to using and LOVE it. I don’t know what it does to my make up but I’m fairly certain it’s witchcraft. The effect after I sweep this over my face on a morning is massive, but I’m really struggling to think of how to describe it. My face just looks finished. It’s not cakey at all which is always a fear for me and powders. At the end of the day my make up has lasted so much better than it would without the powder. It still looks a little dry on my forehead where I’m spotty but a lot less than normal.
Overall I’m really impressed with bareMinerals. The tinted moisturiser wasn’t for me in the end – it wasn’t thick enough but I’ll definitely be buying more lipsticks and more Mineral Veil when I run out of the little pot.
